Faith to Step Out!

Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?”
~Romans 15:1-2 (MSG)

This verse seems to be written for leaders of nonprofits and ministries. Isn’t that exactly what we do, ask, “how can I help?” But, quite honestly, there are times when I don’t necessarily want to step in and help. And, there are definitely times when I want to focus on my needs or wants and not those around me. Unfortunately, we are not supposed to make our choices about helping others based on what is convenient for us.

Because sometimes helping others and being the hands and feet of Jesus is just not convenient.

But, perhaps this is our true calling. Even when we don’t feel like we are, we need to recognize that we are strong. And, those of us who are strong have a greater responsibility. Not only are we to serve those who are weak or who are faltering, but we are also supposed to have the right attitude toward them. This means we can’t serve or help them begrudgingly.
